Introduction to Open Source Contribution

Who Am I?

My name is Rachel!

Currently, I am a student studying Journalism and Computer Science. Previously, I was lead for the p5.js Editor, which is an online editor for the p5.js library. Before we begin, I want provide a brief overview on my journey with open source contribution!

I previously studied art history. While taking an Introduction to Programming course, I became interested in creating art with code.

This brought me to NYU ITP. My first semester Introduction to Computational Media course was taught by Cassie Tarakajian, who created the p5.js Editor. This course and overall program completely changed my outlook on coding education, and was introduced to open source software.

Applied to GSoC in 2019 with the p5.js Editor and added a search bar to the My Sketches page. Continued contributing back to p5.js as a GSoC Mentor (Katie Liu, Connie Zheng) over the next three years.
